Abstract
165,752. Corset, L. A. M. July 1, 1920, [Convention date]. Indicators actuated by floats.-A liquid-level indicator comprises a float 5 guided by a rigid straight guide 2 and slidably engaging a depending lever 3 pivoted at or near its upper end for movement in a plane perpendicular to the axis of its pivot, the lever being of definite curvature with relation to the straight path of the float, and the shape of the tank containing the liquid so that its angular movements are proportional to the variations in the volume of the liquid. The float is provided with pulleys 6, 7 and 8 which engage the guide members 2 and lever 3, a guide member being arranged on each side of the lever. The angular movements of the lever are transmitted to the distant indicator by means of sliders 24 arranged in a tube 25, the movement being translated at the indicator through a sector and pinion mechanism into movement of a pointer over a dial. In a modification, the float pulleys are replaced by a central horizontal pin working between vertical guides and engaging a lever pivoted in the, base of the cap 15. The lever is formed with a quandrantal rack above the pivot pin engaging a pinion carrying a pointer and fitted to a horizontal dial mounted in the top of the cap 15. The curve of the lever 3 must be calculated mathematically for any particular tank. The lever shown is for use with a cylindral tank with the axis horizontal. For a tank of uniform cross-section the lever curve is a half parabola with the lever pivoted at the apex of the curve. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes various constructions of tube and slider transmission mechanism. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted, but is described in Specification 186,068.
