Abstract

Indicators actuated by floats.-The float employed for indicating water level, or steam, flow, in high pressure steam plant is partly balanced by a counterweight moving in a separate casing which is kept cool, and which is in part transparent so that the position of the counterpoise may be seen. The float 1, Fig. 1, moving in a gauge tube 2 of a boiler is connected by a cord 11 to a counterweight 5 moving in a transparent part 7 of a separate casing 6. The tube 9 is connected to the steam space of the tube 2, and becomes filled with condensate. Alternatively, the tube 9 may project upwards through the casing 2 into the steam space. In a steam flow meter, Fig. 3, a conical float 1 moves in a conical casing 2 and is connected through cords and a pivoted lever 14 to a counterweight 5 in a transparent casing 6. A cooling arrangement 15 is provided. In another form, Fig. 4, the counterweight 5 has a thin extension 19 which is viewed, and is provided with a closure member 16 which co-operates with a seating 17 in the event of breakage of the glass 7. A spring 18 prevents seating of the closure member when the float is at its highest level in normal working.
