Abstract

323,524. Smalley, W. Aug. 4, 1928. Liquid-stream indicators.-Apparatus for indicating the rate of flow of a liquid comprises means for introducing into the liquid a visible indicator which travels at the same speed as the liquid. As shown the liquid passes through a transparent capillary tube 6 associated with a scale 7. A hand-pump 9 is provided to pass an air-bubble into the tube 6 through a non-return valve 8 and the rate of flow of the liquid is measured by timing the travel of the bubble along the scale. The invention is particularly applicable to apparatus for adding alumina solution to water in proportion to the flow, the water being passed into a container 3 for the alumina. The flow of water through the container is obtained by means of a Venturi tube 4, to the throat of which the outlet from the container 3 is connected. A manometer 13 may be provided to give an approximate indication of the rate of flow.
