Baffles; fire-bars and grates.- In a furnace provided with reciprocating fire-bars e, the admission of air from the ash-pit b to the furnace flue through the passage between the top of the plate c and the fire-bars is prevented by a baffle-plate a which is secured to the plate c. Teeth d, secured to or formed in one with the plate a and extending upwardly between the bars, prevent the passage of air between the bars and at the same time retain the bars in position.
