Abstract
165,488. Kennedy, E. N. Jan. 27, 1920. Razors, safety, of the " Gillette " type. A guard-plate is formed of two relatively slidable parts each adapted to slide in a plane parallel with that of the blade and in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the blade so that the latter can be cleaned and stropped without dismantling the razor. The guard-plate e is formed with an open-ended longitudinal slot f by which it is slidably engaged with the positioning-studs b, c and a pair of oppositely-disposed L-shaped lugs h forming guides for tongues j at the edges of a slide plate k. The plate k has three longitudinal slots m engaging the studs b, c and limiting the movement thereof, extensions n on the tongues j being adapted to coact with the lugs h to prevent the plates e, k from sliding apart. The plates e, k, blade, and backing-plate are pressed together as usual; to strop and clean the blade, the handle o is unscrewed and the guard-plate e and slide plate k slid away from the blade by means of a plug g on the guard-plate. The adjacent coacting surfaces of the plates e, k are slightly tapered longitudinally relative to the planes thereof. Tongues p on the guard may engage grooves in the slide-plate. The handle o and plate k may be provided with means to indicate the pressure between the parts and consequently the angle between the edges of the blade and the guard-plate.
