Water drums; tube-plates. - To facilitate the withdrawal and insertion of the tubes of a watertube boiler, the tube-plate of the water-drum is formed with holes or pockets c, Fig. 4, each of which is so arranged in relation to the surrounding tube holes 3 that any one of the surrounding tubes may be lowered into a hole or pocket sufficiently to allow the upper end of the tube to be withdrawn or inserted. The holes are normally closed by a cover such as is shown in Fig. 5. Pockets may be pressed out of the tube-plate, or they may be formed separately and welded or riveted to the tube-plate.
