Abstract
163,522. Shaw, J. March 5, 1920. Radial-flow (bladed) type. A turbine has a rotor 7 with a number of spiral passages formed by webs 14 running from the circumference to the centre of the rotor. These passages are divided into a number of expansion chambers 17 by perforated plates 16, the perforations in successive plates being in staggered relationship and increasing in area towards the centre. The stator has an annular steam chamber 4 with passages 8 opening on to the periphery of the rotor. The steam enters by the pipe 5, passes through the stator passages into the spiral passages in the rotor, where it is expanded through the perforations from chamber to chamber, and leaves by the central passage 10.
