Abstract

170,564. Schultz, E. J. A. Oct. 22, 1920, [Convention date]. Axial-flow type; combined-flow type; regulating.-A turbine wherein stator blades are dispensed with comprises two rotors on parallel shafts a, b rotating in the same direction, the discs 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 of one rotor intermeshing with the discs 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 of the other rotor so that steam admitted by nozzles h flows through the oppositely inclined blades of successive discs and exhausts through an outlet f. Each disc may have a number of concentric rings of blades 13, 12, 11. In a modification, Fig. 4, the steam from the last disc 10 is directed by fixed blades p on to a ring of reaction blades l secured to the disc 10. The nozzles h are controlled by a slide-valve x, Fig. 6, which is fitted with a roller z to prevent the steam pressure from forcing it into direct contact with the nozzle chamber. A modification with three rotors o<1>, o<2>, o<3> intermetshing with a fourth rotor o is shown in Fig. 5.
