2925. Hoffbauer, F., and R³demann, L. Feb. 11. Steam &c. turbines.- A device for preventing the escape of the gas or other motive fluid is shown in Fig. 2 as applied to an outward-flow turbine. The turbine wheel c carries an annular ring casing h formed with internal annular ribs o, which intermesh wit h corresponding ribs formed on a ring b secured to the fixed guide-wheel a. The motive fluid which escapes from the space f between the fixed and rotating portions of the turbine is entangled in the zig-zag passages formed by the ribs. In a modification, most of the ribs are dispensed with. The parts secured to the fixed and rotating parts of the turbine may be interchanged, and more than one set of rings may be used.
