Liquid-fuel furnaces.-In a steam-generator furnace using liquid fuel, a conical casing A, Fig. 1, is arranged around an opening C in the wall B of the furnace and carries a burner, not shown, mounted in the aperture E<2> in the front wall E of the casing. The flame from the burner impinges upon an adjustable cone G and air tc. support combustion is supplied through slots A<3> in the casing A and is regulated by a slotted rotary shutter D. Additional air enters the casing through slotted openings E' in the front wall E and is controlled by a rotary disc F. A cenical casing J is attached to the smaller end of the casing A, and may be extended, as at J<1>, to pass upwardly in front of the wall of the furnace to form an air-heating chamber. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the conical casing A is applied to an opening C formed by a fire-brick ring K having bevelled surfaces K<1>, K<2>. The adjustable cone G is provided with a cylindrical extension G<1> provided with longitudinal openings G<2> and mounted in a cylindrical member F<2> which is also provided with openings F' and is mounted upon the rotary disc F. By retating the disc F the openings E<1> at the front end of the conical casing and the openings G<2> in the extension G' of the cone G may be varied. The conical casing J is provided with observation openings J<2>.
