Hand-trucks; tipping-carts.-A truck for transporting cylinders and other articles comprises a wheel base A, a frame or column C thereon supporting a cradle H for carrying the cylinders &c., means for raising and lowering the cradle, and means, controlled by a brake or its equivalent, for tipping it. The base A of cruciform shape has four wheels, two a for running and two a<1> for steadying purposes, and two pivoted arms N to prevent the truck from falling over when the cradle is tipped. As shown the cradle is raised by ratchet mechanism B, an automatic brake .checking the descent. In modifications, the column C may be screw-threaded and operated by bevel-gearing, or it may slide freely in its socket and be sustained by a spring-controlled brake. The tipping of the cradle may be controlled by a worm and worm-wheel or by a brake, on or in the trunnion G at the -top of the column C. As shown, the brake consists of washers I alternately fixed to the trunnion and the bearing and compressed by cam-surfaces K controlled by a lever L.
