Abstract

764,773. Lifting jacks. CARR, R. S. Feb. 2, 1955, No. 3143/55. Class 78 (3). Apparatus for removing or replacing vehicle axles or axle casings comprises a pair of wheeled jacks the crutches of which are adapted to interengage with the two ends of the axle or casing. Each jack comprises a screw 31, rotatable by a hand wheel 27 through bevel gears 28, 29; and a non - rotatable nut which is provided with trunnions 33 and engages screw supports 19 mounted on a three-wheeled base 14. The crutches comprise stubs 45 engageable with the ends of casing 49 and provided with slotted lugs 47 which rest on trunnions 33. In a modification (Fig. 2) the stubs 45 are replaced by plates 35 provided with holes 46 which co-operate with studs in the wheel hub (not shown). In another modification (not shown) the screws are rotated by a handle secured to their upper ends. The Specification states that the jacks can be hydraulically actuated.
