Abstract

162,785. Barnett, J. H. Feb. 4, 1920. Holders for sliding windows.-Carriage-window holding and operating means comprise a bar 12 actuated by a handle 1 and engaging a slot 17 to raise and lower the window, and spring-pressed bars 21 carried on parallel links 23 which frictionally engage and hold the window. The bar 12 is actuated by the handle 1, spindle 2, and slotted disc 11 engaged by two studs 13 at the pivoted end of the bar. The handle 1 is pivoted to the spindle 2 and has a hooked end engaging a boss 10 fixed to the bracket 6 so that a longitudinal movement may be imparted to the spindle and disc 11 to rotate a bar 18 with turned-over ends engaging the holding-bars 21. A pull on the handle 1 raises the bars 21 and frees the window, and subsequent rotation raises or lowers the window. In a modification, Fig. 5, the disc 11 is spring-pressed against the rod 12 and engaged therewith by conical studs 36, so that on rotation the disc rides on the coned edge and operates the bar 18. In a further modification, the spindle 2 is axially fixed by a boss 38, Fig. 6, and has a transverse pin 40 engaging U- shaped grooves in a spring-pressed boss on the rod. The initial rotation causes the boss to move longitudinally and rotate the bar 18. A counterbalancing spring 29 may be provided attached to the frame and to an extension of the rod 12. The links 23 that carry the holders 21 may be pivoted on pins in adjustable plates 25.
