162,211. Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Co., Ltd., (Merritt, A. A.). June 14, 1920. Shaft couplings.- In rigid shaft couplings, provided with angularly adjusting means for phasing two lengths of shaft coupled thereby, and especially applicable to the timing of the trains of mechanism driving the needles &c. and the loopers &c. respectively situated above and below the work-plate of a sewing-machine, a sleeve. 12 is secured on the opposed ends of shafts 10, 11 by taper-screwed nuts 13, operating to contract the split ends of the sleeve on to the shafts, a set-screw 14 being carried by the sleeve, and engaging a depression 15 in the shaft 10, while a similar set-screw 18, eccentrically mounted in a revoluble member 16, also carried by the sleeve, engages a longitudinal slot 19 in the shaft 11. When the nut on the shaft 11 is unscrewed and the set-screw 14 slackened, the shaft 11 may be partially rotated relatively to the shaft 10 by rotating the plug 16. A scale on the periphery of the plug 16 co-operates with a zero-mark on the sleeve. Projections 17 may be formed on the plug to facilitate operation.
