In a sewing machine, the head b of a feed regulating spindle B is formed with an internal thread b<SP>1</SP> to engage a screw thread a<SP>2</SP> on a concentric arm shaft a, rotation of the spindle relatively to the shaft adjusting the throw of an eccentric C, actuating a connecting rod C, to vary the stitch length. Screw thread b<SP>1</SP> is formed in a press-fitted sleeve b<SP>2</SP>. The tapered end b<SP>3</SP> of spindle B engages a screw c carried by the eccentric C.
