Abstract

Combined fluid-actuated and mechanical gears.-In a modification of the gear described in Specification 7966/14, the pilot valve has a single port 2 by which fluid is supplied through ports 6, 7, 9, 10 in the main valve to the ends of the main cylinder. Fluid is supplied to the ends of the main-valve chamber by auxiliary passages 11 - - 14 controlled by the pilot valve, and is exhausted therefrom through ports 13, 14 into the ends of the pilot-valve chamber, and from there through ports 15 to the outlet 16. The pilot valve is moved continuously by the piston-rod throughout its stroke by the linkage gear shown in Fig. 5. The lever 22, pivoted at 23, is connected by a cross-head to the valve-rod 25, and its end 28 slides in a swivel pin 28 in the end of an adjustable double-link 29 pivoted to the piston-rod head 20. In a modification, a flat slide pilot valve is used. The length of the stroke is varied by adjusting the screw 31.
