Abstract

195,139. Watson, H. B., and Billetop, T. C. Dec. 20, 1921. C o m b i ne d fluidactuated and mechanical valve-gears.-In a valve-gear particularly applicable to the pump described in Specification 6719/09, [Class 102 (i), Pumps &c.], and wherein the admission is controlled by a main piston shuttle valve, the cut-off by an auxiliary valve and additional valves are provided to supply fluid to the shuttle-valve chambers after cut-off, screwdown valves are arranged in the auxiliary passages to cushion the main valve. The ports C, D, E lead to the front cylinder end, main exhaust, and rear cylinder end respectively, and communicate with steam and exhaust valve chambers M, N and O. The auxiliary valve B moves oppositely to the main piston, controls main-steam ports F, G connected to chambers M, N, and auxiliary ports H, K and Q connected to the valve-chamber ends j<3> and chamber O respectively. The connecting passages h<1>, k<1> have adjustable valves h<4>, k<4> for controlling the main-valve cushioning. The passages f<1>, g<1> connecting the ports F, G and chambers M, N may be supplied, when the pressure is below normal, with full-pressure steam through valve-chest connections controlled by valves f<4>, g<4>, Fig. 4. The cut-off is varied by adjusting the piston-rod-operated tappets controlling the valve stroke.
