Actuating by steam pressure; valve-gear. -In pumps of the kind wherein the p u m p plunger is directly connected to the steam piston and the valve gear of the pump is directly connected to the valve of the steam engine, an additional steam valve is used for obtaining reversal of the pump. The main steam piston a operates through levers an auxiliary valve which supplies steam for reversing the main steam valve e. The valve e is directly connected to the valve 8 of the pump and the piston a is directly connected to piston b of the pump. An additional slide valve x which can be set by a hand lever 7 is used for effecting the distribution of steam to the auxiliary valve and the ports are arranged so that steam is supplied to the main piston a for a given direction of working either with the main valve at the right end or left end of the valve chest according to the setting of the control valve x. In consequence, the pump valve 8 will be at the right or left hand of its travel relative to the pump piston and the connections with the delivery and suction passages are reversible.
