Barrels; stocks; protecting from heat of barrel.-A rifle barrel 1 is protected against radial strains, caused by resting the gun on or against a support by a sleeve 10 of larger internal diameter than the outside of the barrel. The sleeve extends between the backsight and foresight, which are on the barrel itself, and is secured to the barrel at the rear end only. In a modification, the hand guard or the wooden forestock is formed as a tube surrounding the barrel with radial play, and is rigidly connected to the barrel at the rear. The hand-guard tube may be slotted.
