Abstract
160,803. Praceiq, E. Bouchaud-. March 26, 1920, [Convention date]. Current motors; radial-flow (bladed) type.-A current or wave motor adapted to be driven always in the same direction when immersed in rivers or tidal waters, comprises a disc 1 provided with blades 3 on both faces and secured to a spindle 2. The buoyancy of the apparatus may be varied by the use of ballast or recesses in the disc or by floats. By suspending the spindle 2 vertically in water having a wave motion, both sides of the disc assist in maintaining the rotation, and where the spindle is moored horizontally in a current of water, the backwash on the far side of the disc is stated to assist in the rotation. The apparatus may drive electric generators, and several units may be combined on the same or separate spindles. The disc may be given other forms, such as a double cone or a double paraboloid.
