Abstract

159,772. Forsberg, K.. A. G. April 9, 1920. Two - stroke - cycle engines; driving- gear. -- A pair of pistons 2 which make their corresponding strokes simultaneously compress pump charges in the ends of the cylinders remote from the combustion spaces and transmit motion through rollers 8 to a common fly-wheel, having cam-grooves 9 and mounted on a central shalt which extends through the pistons. The shaft rotates in guides 4 over which the pistons slide, rotation of the pistons being prevented by rollers x working in slots 13 in the walls of the cylinders. Pump charges are transferred to the cylinders through passages 12. A modified construction is described in which the pistons actuate fly-wheels rotating in opposite directions. the fly-wheels being mounted on coaxial shafts connected together by toothed gearing. If preferred, the explosions may take place alternately in the two cylinders. The driving mechanism may be applied to four-stroke-cycle engines.
