Abstract

20,727. Creser, A. A. T., and Kear, L. S. J. Oct. 8. Revolving-cylinder and reciprocating-piston type; tandem-cylinder engines; driving-gear.- Figs. 1 and show a two-cylinder double-acting engine of the revolving-cylinder type in which the pistons c arc of trunk formation so that they form inner cylinders and move over blocks g, g mounted on a crank e which is eccentric to the fixed shaft f. f. The pistons arc coupled so that they move in opposite directions and by an arm j rotate a fly-wheel nr propeller freely-mounted on the shaft f. The pistons are connected to the outside gear by studs c<11> moving in slots l in the cylinder walls. In a modification, the pistons are coupled so as to move in the same direction, and in this case. to obtain a balanced engine, there are two pairs of cylinders, the pistons in which move in opposite directions, the crank-pin c being mounted between the pairs of cylinders. The inlet and outlet valves may be of the lift type all worked from one cam on a shaft driven from the of the cylinders. In the case of all internal-combustion engine, the cam is on a halfspeed shaft, and igniting-devices are provided. In another modification, the exhaust-valves are of the lift type, while the combustible mixture is admitted by ports uncovered by the pistons. In the case of a stationary - cylinder engine, the outside driving-gear is coupled to a crankshaft.
