Abstract

158,122. Clegg, W. H. Nov. 11, 1919. Valves; valve-gear.-A piston or sleeve valve 3 controlling inlet and exhaust is given a combined reciprocating and oscillating movement, by an inclined crank-pin 6, Fig. 1, and a connecting-rod 4 which can swing in one plane only relatively to the valve, and the arrangement is such that the axis of the crank-pin intersects the axis of its shaft on the axis of the valve. The inclined crank-pin may be replaced by a spherical crankpin 11, Fig. 2, set to one side of the axis of the valve. The valve-actuating shaft 7 may rotate at half the speed of the crank-shaft, and the valve may move away from the working piston during the power stroke, and towards it during the suction stroke. According to the Provisional Specification, the sparking-plug may be carried in the valve.
