Abstract
158,001. Lemperiere, L. E. Jan. 7, 1918. Two-stroke-cycle engines.-In a two-stroke-cycle engine having the cylinders arranged radially in two parallel planes, all the cylinders are cast in one with a single annular water jacket. The cylinders are disposed in balanced groups of four, each group comprising one pair C<1>, C<2> and another pair C<1>1, C<1>2 arranged diametrically opposite the first pair. The pistons P1, P2 are connected by a forked connecting-rod B to a single crank A, and the pistons P<1>1, P<1>2 are connected by rods B<1> to a pair of cranks A<1> in line with each other. Each cylinder has a castiron lining F, which is pressed into place after the cylinder has been expanded by heat. Each pair of cylinders such as C<1>, C<2> or C<1>1, C<1>2 have a common combustion chamber E. The combustible mixture is forced through admission ports O<1>, O<1>1 into the cylinders C<1>, C<1>1 by a fan V driven from the engine. The burnt gases escape through exhaust ports O2, O<1>2 in the cylinders C<2>, C<1>2, and enter an annular box S constituting a silencer.
