Cylinders, pipes for.-In order to preserve a uniform current of gas in a manifold induction pipe notwithstanding the intermittent flow through the branches, the latter are connected together by an additional passage. Several arrangements for both four- and six-cylinder engines are described, of which Fig. 3 is typical. The charges enter the pipe a at c and flow towards each inlet valve i as it opens, the direction of flow being maintained when the valve closes by the gases continuing their course through the passages b towards the next valve that opens.
