Description

(54) COMPRESSION MOULD (71) We, INDUSTRIE-WERKE KARLS RUHE AUGSBURG A.G., a Joint Stock Company organised under the laws of Germany (Fed. Rep.) of Postfach 3409, 7500 Karlsruhe 1, Germany (Fed. Rep.) do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to tbe performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to a compression mould, in particular for the production of odourless and biologically active soil improvement means, which are stable in storage, from waste material, by processing and drying mixtures of refuse and sewage sludge, with several chambers whose contents are compression moulded by means of hydraulically-acting compression plates or the like.
German Patent Specification 1 145 646 already describes a method for the production of odourless and biologically active soil improvement means, which are stable in storage, from waste material, by processing and drying mixtures of refuse and sewage sludge.
One essential step in this production method consists in subjecting the refuse/ sewage sludge mixture to compression mass. To carry out this stage of the method, it is necessary to place the mixture in a sectional compression mould in order to transform it into prismatic bodies under the action of hydraulically operating compression plates for example.
When using compression moulds of this type it is not always possible to prevent the individual chambers of the compression mould from being filled in an irregular or varying manner with the mixture of refuse and sewage sludge, this ultimately resulting in varying rigidity of the briquettes. When the briquqettes are placed on pallets subsequent to the moulding process, such differences in the rigidity frequency lead to unstable stacking and thus possibly to their destruction.
In known compression moulds, phenomena like the aforementioned may be attri buted to the fact that for reasons of economical methods of operation, the compression plates are connected to each other by way of a common compressor head and that as a result of irregular compression, the guidance of the compressor head is additionally stressed by tilting movements.
In view of the inadequacies inherent in known compression moulds, it is the object of the present invention to provide a compression mould in which not only these and similar inadequacies are eliminated, but due to an appropriate method of construction, an equalization in the filling of the individual chambers of the compression mould is facilitated, due to which a desirable uniformity of the physical properties of the briquettes is ultimately achieved.
According to the present invention there is provided a compression mould the cavity of which is divided into a plurality of chambers by a plurality of transverse partitions provided at their base with respective cut-outs permitting flow of the mould contents between the chambers during the filling and subsequent compression.
In an advantageous development of this idea on which the proposed invention is based, it is also provided that the cut-outs are of trapezoidal shape and are respectively located at the base of a cross-piece, intermediate wall or the like and that two cut-outs are provided in each cross-piece, intermediate wall or the like.
It is readily apparent that a series of advantages is provided by the proposed invention: With an unchanged simple outer construction of the compression mould, an equalization of the filling between the individual chambers is automatically achieved during the moulding process, without any difficulties, also without any constructional expenditure. In addition, the compressor head of the press is protected owing to the fact that the mechanical stress on the latter is made uniform.
Naturally, the advantages are not exhaust ed in the aforesaid: when using the invention, it is of considerable importance that due to the fact that the rigidity of the briquettes is made uniform, losses due to breakage are largely eliminated and the solidity of a stack of briquettes is improved One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing: A plurality of axis-parallel transverse partitions la are provided in the compression mould 1 to form a plurality of likewise axisparallel chambers lb serving for receiving the mixture of refuse and sewage sludge.
Provided in each of these partitions la are cut-outs ic, through which automatic equalization of the refuse/sewage sludge filling takes place.
The cut-outs lc, which are respectively located at the base of the partitions la, are preferably of trapezoidal shape. Naturally, any other geometric shape of the cut-outs lc, serving for the intended purpose, can be provided without changing the idea of the invention. In a preferred embodiment, each la contains two cut-outs lc.
The compression plates (shown in dotdash line) are designated by the reference numeral 2.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. A compression mould, the cavity of which is divided into a plurality of chambers by a plurality of transverse partititons provided at their base with respective cutouts permitting flow of the mould contents between the chambers during filling and the subsequent compression.
2. A compression mould according to claim 1, wherein the cut-outs are of trapezodial shape and are located at the base of the respective partition.
3. A compression mould according to claims 1 or 2, wherein each partition has two cut-outs.
4. A compression mould substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
