Abstract

1451065 Moulding cavitied concrete blocks W H WEBB and P J WEBB 24 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 5230/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] A concrete wave protection block 1 of generally prismatic or cylindrical form, comprises a plurality of lateral recesses 8 extending from one end face 3 along only part of the length of the block; and opening radially into a central recess 4 extending from the other end face 2 of the block. The legs 7 of the block defined by the recesses, are interconnected by an end slab 5 having a central aperture 6 therethrough. The block is of rectangular, hexagonal or circular cross-section, and can be slightly tapered. The block is made in a mould 10 (Fig. 2) having axially extending ribs 12 for defining the lateral recesses 8, and supports a removable pallet 13. An octagonal core 16 (Fig. 5) fits closely against the ribs 12 to define the central recess 4, and includes an end projection that spaces the core from the pallet 13 to mould the slab central aperture 6 (Fig. 1). Stiff concrete is vibrated in the mould cavity and tamped by an annular tamper surrounding the core. The mould and core are stripped before the concrete has set hard, to leave the block on the pallet 13, or the block is cast in an inverted position and left to dry on the core above.
