Padlocks; locks, revolving-barrel. -The pivot pin of the shackle of a padlock is carried by a disc rigidly coupled to the revolving cylinder of a pin-tumbler locking-mechanism. The pivot pin a may be fixed between a pair of such discs c, c, to which a corresponding pair of revolving cylinders e, e, with pintumblers, are rigidly connected by pins f, one in front of, and one in rear of, the pair of discs. In the form illustrated, the pin-tumblers are arranged in four rows, the key g having four corresponding bits. Insertion of the key positions the pintumblers to allow it to turn, revolving with it the discs c, c, and the cylinders e, e, and raising the shackle b to free its shorter leg, as shown in Fig. 2. On further turning, the shackle is thrown backwards as shown in Fig. 3 owing to its longer leg pressing against the edge of the slot in the casing. The opposite movement of the key brings back the shackle to its operative position and its removal causes the pin-tumblers to lock.it.
