[Class 44.] A revolving-barrel pintumbler lock is provided with a sleeve 4 or plate fitted on the periphery of the barrel 2 and displaceable a certain amount with respect thereto but normally always secured thereto by the pin tumblers 8, which in the unlocking position have their division line 10 in register with the outer periphery of the sleeve or plate. Should the barrel 2 have been released by a picking operation to bring the division line of the pins in register with the inner periphery of the sleeve or plate, the barrel can only be turned a small amount since the sleeve or plate will be held by the outer parts of the pin tumblers : this movement is insufficient to withdraw the lock bolt (not shown), which is actuated by the link 11. The barrel 2 and sleeve 4 are shown connected axially by a bayonet joint 5 and are formed respectively with shoulders 6, 7, by which they are retained in the casing 1. The bolt operating link 11 has aT-end 13 secured to the sleeve by a split plate 15, Fig. 2, inserted in a transverse slot. The relative movement of the barrel is taken up when its bayonet lugs 5 engage the T-end 13 of the link 11, Fig. 3, which is held rigid with the sleeve 4 by the split plate 15. With the plate construction, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the relative movement is taken up when the plate edges abut on the edges of the peripheral recess on the barrel in which they are mounted. The tumbler pin bores may be slightly conical while the rear bores may be of greater diameter. A number of plates or of sleeves may be arranged side by side or on top of one another.
