Locks, revolving - barrel. - In a revolving-barrel lock, the barrel D is locked against rotation by means of a stump N, Fig. 6, carried in a recess N<1> in the barrel and normally held in engagement with an inclined recess g in the fixed cylinder E by disks K housed in the barrel. The disks each have a keyhole L with steps L<1> for engagement with the key-bits, and true and false gatings M. In operation, the key is rotated to turn the disks, the bits engaging with selected steps L' in the different disks, and sets these with their true gratings beneath the stump N. Further rotation of the key turns the barrel D, the stump N being forced out of the recess g by the incline into the disk gatings, and operates the bolt by means of a follower on the barrel. On reversing the key, the stump is reengaged by its spring F<1>. In the form shown, the stump N is in one piece extending across all the disks, but in a modification, there is a radially-moving pin for each disk. Master-key locks.-A master-key lock is obtained by cutting a special gating in each disk to correspond with the master-key bits., all the disks in the locks having the same stepped keyhole. In one form, the revolving barrel has a bar integral with it to engage a projection on a latch bolt and lock this in the shot position. Specification 128,512 is referred to.
