Abstract
155,872. Marks, E. C. R., (Locomotive Superheater Co., Inc.). Aug. 22, 1919. Jointing tubes to headers.-Superheating-tubes are connected to their headers by means of bars secured to the headers and having passages corresponding to the tube ends and with the openings in the sides of the headers. The clamps securing the tubes engage only with the bars, thus avoiding pressure upon the headers. U- tubes 6, Fig. 2, are secured by cross clamps 7 to bars 13 welded to the heaedrs 1, 1<a> and having right angled passages 3<a> placing the tube ends in communication with openings in the headers. A single bar may be used in place of two bars, the clamping bolts passing through holes along the centre of the bar. The bars may be welded to the lower surfaces of the headers as shown on Fig. 5. Instead of being welded together, the bars may be connected to the headers by means of short tubes or nipples. The clamps may secure tube ends on the same bar instead of on different bars as shown. Tubes may be secured to both sides of the bars.
