Abstract

167,134. Locomotive Superheater Co., (Assignees of Broido, B.). July 28, 1920, [Convention date]. Jointing tubes to headers.-In arrangements for securing pipes to headers wherein doubleended clamps embracing pairs of tubes are forced towards the header by bolts, a relatively heavy bar 11 is provided in contact with the inside of a thin-walled header 1 and contains holes 12 registering with holes 2 in the header wall. The ends 4 of each tube are upset, and a collar 5 and washer 6 transmit pressure from the clamp 7. The clamp may be formed with forked ends embracing the tubes, and is drawn up by a bolt 8 passing through the header wall and screwing into the bar 11 intermediate the holes therethrough. The holes in the header wall may be conical and the corresponding portions of the bolts similarly shaped.
