Abstract
155,525. Metropolitan - Vickers Etectrical Co., (Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co.). July 8, 1920. Screw propellers.-In propellers made from superimposed layers 2 of fibrous material impregnated with a hardened binder, such as a phenolic condensation product, the leading edge 4 is stiffened by wires 3 placed between the layers prior to moulding. A second group may be placed between the leading edge, centre of pressure, and rear face 5. The wires may be cased in fabric which is impregnated with the binder before being inserted. By this construction, the leading portion of the blade is rigid whilst the rear portion is slightly flexible.
