Axles and axle structures.-In a rear axle casing provided with a removable chamber containing the gear parts, the chamber is completely closed to prevent oil leakage. As shown, the removable chamber h is made oil tight by oil packings comprising felt rings l carried in holders m mounted on the shaft g and on the bosses n of the two sun wheels of the differential gear. The hollow bosses of the gear wheels in which the shaft or rear wheel shafts engage are closed at the ends towards the interior of the gear casing by means of plates. The chamber is closed at its end by a cap p detachably secured by screws and provided with a filling socket, a run off pipe t, and an inspection opening u.
