Abstract

154,824. Lancia, V. Feb. 24, 1920. Compression engines.-Two rows of cylinders are inclined to one another so that their axes meet on the bisector of the angle formed by the axes, and at a point beyond the crank-shaft. The invention is shown in Fig. 2 applied to an engine of the type described in Specification 102,378 in which the angle between the firing impulses is equal to the sum of the angle between two adjacent crankpins and the angle between the connecting-rods secured to the pins when the cranks are in their deadcentre position. As shown in Fig. 2, the angle between the connecting-rods when in their deadcentre positions and that between adjacent crankpins is 45 degrees. The angle between the cylinders, however, is less than 45 degrees, the axes of the cylinders meeting at a point beyond the crank-shaft.
