Toothed gearing.-Relates to marine turbine installations wherein the turbine a drives the propeller shaft i through double reduction gearing and the helical gears are arranged so as to balance in known manner the axial thrust of the turbine, the propeller, and the intermediate shaft d. One helical wheel, preferably the slow-running wheel g, h, is split together with the pinion e, meshing with it, and the other wheel c is located between the two parts of the split wheel so as to secure a symmetrical arrangement on the intermediate shaft. The known method adopted for balancing the end-thrusts on the intermediate shaft consists in giving the teeth of the driven wheel and those of the power-transmitting wheel the same direction and so inclining them both that the tangents of the angles of inclination have the same ratio to each other as the diameters.
