Stairs; floors illuminated from below.-Floors, stairs, landings, and passages are illuminated from beneath by mounting glass or other translucent material d in metal frames b flanged to rest on the tread and to support the glass. The tread is cut away to admit the frame. The underside of the glass may be covered with plain or figured fabric, paper, &c., and the upper face of the glass may be flush with the tread surface or be sunk below it to receive a perforated rubber mat f. The invention is applicable to theatres, cinemas, ships, &c.
