Compound fabrics. - A matting for use, for example, in a motor-car, is made by embedding spirals a of wire in rubber b, the spirals being arranged at intervals and parallel to each other and to the surface of the matting &c. The spirals are laid on a canvas backing, a rubber sheet is pressed on it, and the rubber is then cured.
