Abstract

1529634 Masking steel with silicone resin prior to hot dipping NIPPON STEEL CORP 10 March 1976 [15 April 1975] 09477/76 Heading C7F Prior to hot dip metal coating, selected parts of steel strip or sheet are masked by coating with a silicone resin, baked at 300-800‹C in an oxidizing atmosphere and then heated in reducing atmosphere before passing through the molten metal bath which may be Zn or Al. The silicone resin may be a polysilane polymer, a ringed polysiloxane polymer, a chained polysiloxane polymer or a condensation polymer of organo silanal and may contain up to 50 wt. per cent of metal oxides, nitrides, hydroxides, carbides, carbonates, phosphates or silicates. The resin may be dissolved in an organic solvent and applied at 0À5-50g/m<SP>2</SP> of steel surface. After hot dipping the resin may be removed by acid pickling, etching with a chromate or by brushing.
