Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise corrosion resistance and hardness of the molding surface without damaging the properties of base metal by the procedure in which the surface of various metal moldings is plated with an alloy containing Ni, Co, P, and B and then subjected to a heat treatment by a high frequency induction heating.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of an iron steel or nonferrous metal molding is coated with an alloy containing 96 to 80 wt% Ni and/or Co and 4 to 20 wt% P and/or B into a 5 to 5000 micron thick layer by a wet type plating method, and then the alloy plated layer is heat treated at 400 to 600°C by a high frequency induction heating method. This method increases the surface hardness and corrosion resistance of metal molding as well as raise the adhesion between the plated layer and the base metal without causing the deterioration of base metal due to heating because of the concentrated heat treatment on plated layer by the use of high frequency induction heating method.
