Abstract

PURPOSE: To restrain the alloying of Fe in a base metal with Cr and obtain excellent workability and corrosion resistance by a method wherein an Ni film having a predetermined thickness is previously formed on a surface to be treated, when chromizing the surface of carbon steel or alloy steel.
CONSTITUTION: An Ni film having a thickness of more than 5 is formed on the surface of a carbon steel (0.22% C, 0.25% Si, 0.52% of Mn) or SUS410 steel (0.07% C, 0.40% Si, 0.51% Mn, 0.06% Ni, 11.5% Cr). Then the surface thus coated with Ni film is subjected to the chromizing treatment. If the Ni film is absent, the alloying of Cr with Fe in the base material proceeds during the chromizing treatment, readily resulting in the formation of a brittle phase. On the other hand, when the Ni film is provided in advance, the alloying of Cr with Fe is inhibited and excellent workability and corrosion resistance can be obtained.
