Abstract

1524718 Web tensioning FOG RIDDIFORD 18 April 1977 [19 Jan 1976] 01892/76 Heading B8R Device for maintaining constant tension in a moving elastic web 10, Fig. 1, or filament comprises a roller 12 about which the web is trained for frictional engagement therewith, the roller being mounted for lateral displacement (self-aligning bearing 16, or magnetic bearings 46, 48, 50, Fig. 9) by the tension induced in the web against a bias (spring 20) acting in opposition to the tension, there being provided a frictional restraint (brake) 24 effective to increase a counter-torque on the roller as the tension induced in the web decreases.
