Abstract

1523851 Starting and stopping diesel engines C FERRARI 14 Jan 1977 [16 Jan 1976] 01496/77 Headings FIB and F1K The fuel rack 5 of a diesel engine injection pump 1 is biased towards an idling position by springs (not shown) and moved by a pair of opposed electromagnets 11, 12 via a lever 7 and tie-rod 6, to a null delivery position for stopping the engine and to a cold starting position supplying a quantity of fuel greater than that required for idling. The electromagnets 11, 12 are operated via a key (not shown) turning a rotary switch 30 having four terminals connected as follows; terminal 14 is isolated and the switch 30 receives the key in this position; terminal 15 activates relay 36, deactivation of which operates a timer circuit and a relay 29 to actuate electromagnet 12 to bring the rack into the null delivery position; terminal 19 activates a relay 48 deactivation of which operates a further timer circuit and relay 28 to actuate electromagnet 11 and bring the rack into the cold-starting position; and terminal 17 activates igniters 63.
