Abstract
1523154 Planting tubers SOC JEANTIL & CIE 1 Sept 1975 35977/75 Heading AID Potatoes are conveyed from a hopper 12 by a pair of conveyor belts 10, caused to move one by one by a vaned rotating wheel 14, fall one at a time into a bifurcated collector cup 50 which then halts the conveyor belt 10, and are taken up by the interdigitating fingers of bifurcated carrier cups which deposit the potatoes into a furrow opened by a share 19. In Figs. 1 and 2, the collector cup 50 is pivoted to a weight-responsive switch 52 controlling the drive to the conveyor belts 10, and the carrier cups 54 are carried by a rotating wheel 56. Panels 21 are reciprocated out-of-phase within the hopper 12 to assist in forming a single line of potatoes, and the vanes 36 of the rotating wheel 14 are caused to extend and retract as the wheel 14 rotates. The ground wheels 2 (or an auxiliary motor) drive the vaned wheel 14 and the cup wheel 56 continuously by means of chains-and-sprockets, and drive the conveyor belts 10 intermittently by means of chain-and-sprockets and a clutch 9 controlled by the switch 52. In Fig. 10, detection of a potato in a fixed collector cup 5 is by a photoelectric cell 8, and the carrier cups 6 are carried by an endless belt 26. The vanes 36 of the wheel 14 are fixed by flexible. The connection 20 (Fig. 1) to a tractor prevents tilting of the planter. A number of planters may be mounted side-by-side in a frame for multi-row planting.
