Electrodes, supporting; connexions; oxygen and hydrogen, obtaining.-An electrode suitable for use in the production of oxygen and hydrogen is composed of two sheet-metal plates having depressions e<1>, e<2> to pairs of which are welded one or more terminal strips f, g. In order to prevent entry of electrolyte between the strips and the surfaces of the depressions, the welding is done around each edge of the depressions, slots j being provided near the interior edges to facilitate this operation from outside the electrode. The strips may be flat and the depressions angular as shown. The upper corners i of the electrode plates are offset and welded together, and their lower corners m are offset to a smaller degree and are welded to supports n engaging insulators o in the cell corners. The plates may be flat and either perforated or not; they may be vertical or inclined.
