Abstract
271,685. Allan, W. G. Aug. 4, 1926. Oxygen and hydrogen, obtaining; cells; dia. phragms; electrodes; electrolytes, circulating. - An electrolytic cell for the production of hydrogen and oxygen comprises perforated electrodes 15, 16 separated by a permeable diaphragm 12, and arranged to be of sinuous or plicated form. The diaphragm is held in a plate 4 secured between flanges 3 of metal annuli 1, 2 and the electrodes 15, 16 are secured to wall plates 6 bolted to but insulated from the annuli. Electrolyte is supplied by tubes 20 and gas removed through tubes 20a. Fig. 6 shows a bipolar electrode constructed of three metal plates 21, 22, 23, and Fig. 7 a construction of cell in which the folds of the electrodes are perpendicular to the end plates 6.
