Wire; cased forms. - To bring their effective co-efficient of expansion near to that of glass, lowexpansion wires may be covered at the point of sealing with a sheath of copper, attached by welding, soldering or by electro-deposition; or a rod of the metal may be enclosed in a sheath of copper before drawing. A wire of nickel-steel containing 41-44 per cent of nickel may have a copper sheath whose thckness is one-tenth the diameter of the core.
