Abstract

399,752. Ignition plugs. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 12, 1933, No. 13920. Convention date, Jan. 5. [Class 7 (iv).] An electrically heated filament 3, comprising molybdenum or tungsten, for example, is enclosed in a body 2 of pure metal oxide such as aluminium oxide fused at a temperature above 1600‹ C., or a mixture of metal oxides. The ends 4, 6 of the filament are pressed into contact with a central rod 5 and metal sleeve 7 insulated from both rod and casing by a layer of insulation 10. If aluminium is used for the sleeve the insulation may be aluminium oxide. The filament may consist of narrow spiral windings, of a bifilar winding, or a broader spiral winding through the centre of which one end is returned. Circuit leads are attached to the outer ends of the members 5, 7.
