Abstract

1516730 Hot gas reciprocating engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 18 July 1975 [22 July 1974] 30217/75 Heading F1S [ Also in Division F4] A hot gas reciprocating engine comprises at least one storage container 29 for working medium which can be selectively connected via a first duct 21 with an outlet of the working space 20 or via a second duct 22 with an inlet of the working space, control means 27, 28 being provided for selectively opening and closing the ducts. In the storage container there is provided a partition 31 which is movable in the container in response to a pressure differential across the partition and which separates a first chamber 32 for containing working medium from a second chamber 33 containing an azeotropic mixture which in the operation of the engine maintains a substantially constant working medium pressure in the first chamber 32 by evaporation and condensation of this mixture in response to a decrease and an increase respectively of the quantity by weight of the working medium in the first chamber. There may be two of the storage containers for containing working medium of higher and lower pressure respectively. The movable partition 31 may consist of a corrugated bellows which is movable axially of the storage container. The second chamber of the or each container may be provided with a heating and/or cooling device.
