Abstract
1514671 Desulphurization of petroleum hydrocarbons NALCO CHEMICAL CO 4 June 1976 [27 June 1975] 23243/76 Heading C5E Petroleum hydrocarbon fractions have their sulphur content reduced by contact with hydrogen and a metal-molybdenum-phosphorus catalyst preferably on a carrier, the metal being cobalt and/or nickel, the amount of the various components of the catalyst being 2 to 7% by weight of metal calculated as the metal oxide, 8 to 20% by weight of molybdenum calculated as MoO 3 and 2 to 10% of phosphorus, calculated as P 2 O 5 , under the following conditions: wherein B.R. represents the upper limit of the boiling range of the petroleum fraction, T is the hydrogenation temperature, Max. Psig. is the maximum hydrogen pressure in pounds per square inch gauge, LHSV is the liquid hourly space velocity and Min. SCF/B is the minimum number of standard cubic feet of hydrogen per 42 gallon barrel of the petroleum fraction, and separating the fraction having the reduced sulphur content. Most preferably the metal is cobalt. Suitable carriers are alumina and mixtures of alumina and silica.
